Mac Slater Cool Hunter 2 Trailer Online Now

I've just finished editing the video book trailer for my new title, Mac Slater, Coolhunter 2: I ♥ NY. The book hits Australian shelves Feb '09 (Random House).

Check out the trailer here on the Mac Slater site or here on my Youtube channel. It's about forty seconds long.

I spent seventeen hours in an edit suite a couple of weeks ago, cutting together some footage I shot in New York a few years back, to the beat of a track written exclusively for the trailer by Charlton Hill

If you like the trailer, don't forget to hand the good times around and share it. I loved writing this book and can't wait to see what the world thinks of it. (Unless they think it sucks. In which case, I can wait.)

Coolhunting Comp Finalists Announced!

At we've just announced the five finalists in our coolhunting competition. There were hundreds of finds to trawl through and these were the best of the best. Check out the stuff they hunted and have your say on who wins the 80GB ipod Classic. Voting ends 11/1/09.

You can also sign up for the Mac Cool newsletter to hear about the NEXT competition and, from what I hear, the prize is a cracker. (You don't win a cracker. I mean it's going to be good.)

Today I'm reading about Shanghai, China, the setting for the third book in the Coolhunter series.

New Podcast Interview Online

Valerie Khoo from Sydney Writers Centre recently interviewed me about Mac Slater, Coolhunter, and how I go about the business of writing for children and young peeps. The podcast covers the original idea for the series, the daily challenge of facing the blank page and the best bits about writing for a living.

Mac Slater, Coolhunter Hits Shelves

Mac Slater, Coolhunter 1: The Rules of Cool is officially launched and on shelves Australia and New Zealand-wide. Author and actress, Judy Nunn (pictured here with me), launched the book to a receptive crowd at the recent Byron Bay Writer's Festival. The weather was perfect and we had a flying bike in the house, parachute hanging from ceiling. Flyke guy, Ed Gray, provided the three-wheeled flying machine and rumour has it that he flew home from the launch. My other sessions at the fest went smoothly, too. I loved the children's tent session where the audience and I brainstormed a pretty wild adventure for the third Mac Slater, Coolhunter book.

Positive Reviews for Mac Slater Coolhunter

Hey. We've had some really good reviews for Mac Slater, Coolhunter 1: The Rules of Cool. It's featured in this month's Dolly Magazine, DMag, Total Girl, Bookseller & Publisher and Magpies, the youth lit journal.

Here's a link to a review that seems to be top of the 'Mac Slater Coolhunter' Google rankings right now (not that I've been googling it).

Will keep you up to date on all shameless propaganda as it happens.

Mac Slater Coolhunter Launch - Byron Bay Writers Festival

Actress and Bestselling author Judy Nunn will be launching my new book at this year's Byron Bay Writers Festival. I was lucky enough to work with Jude for a number of years on TV series Home and Away. She was a real guiding light for us whippersnappers on the show and I'm excited that she'll be launching my book.

I'm also really looking forward to a session I'm chairing with director Bruce Beresford, film critic David Stratton, actor William McInnes and Malaysian Chaser-style filmmaker, Kam Raslan.

Byron is a fest that I've attended a bunch of times and long-dreamed of being involved with. I've seen dozens of fantastic and inspiring writers speak there over the years.

If you're in the area, I'd love to see you there. The sessions I'll be involved with are below and the full fest guide is at

24 July (Thursday) 9.45am-10.45am East Marquee Junior Secondary:

Mac Slater Coolhunter 1: The Rules of Cool Hits Shelves

In July 2008 the first in my new book series, Mac Slater, Coolhunter (Random House) hits shelves. I'm super-proud of this book and these characters. I'm currently writing the second in the series, set in my favourite city, New York. You can see the trailer, go behind-the-scenes, read an excerpt, hunt cool and win an 80GB ipod at
