Inspiring Kids and Teens to Read and Write

How do you get teenagers interested in reading and writing things other than text messages?

This is the question posed to me by ABC Brisbane Drive host Rebecca Levingston. And, above, you can click and listen to what I had to say.

My husband went to Shailor Park High and i have to say his reading has improved so much since having children and reading to them every night 😉
Meanwhile our 7yo is forever writing. Her ipod is full of random short stories, letters and video narratives & I'm forever finding ripped pages in drawers, toy boxes or laying on the floor covered in paragraphs about some imaginary event.
Our 5yo rarely lets us read to him anymore because he wants to do it and the thing is he can, his school literacy levels are quite high.
All those bedtimes stories have paid off all round! Read to your kids folks.

Thanks. Inspiring words. So glad to see your kids engaging with books and creativity. And your husband!
