Sometimes it’s hard to remember what you did in a year, if you did anything, so I did a little Instagram time-travel and brought back these pics of what 2018 held for me in the world of writing and speaking about teen and children’s books. Overall, it looks like fun. Wish I’d been there. Well, I was, according to these pics but I have to warn you that all the boring bits of my year were taken out. All the responsibilities and household chores and hard work and staring at a screen hoping for words to appear and dreading that I’m writing something that will never come together, all those bits are gone. And you just get the nice bits, the highlights, but it’s not a full and accurate picture of the writer’s life.
I also think that these pictures miss a lot of the amazing people that I work with, often via email. I get to work with so many great humans at Penguin Random House Australia, a group of great speaking and literary agents, lots of cool creative people who make books and other things, then booksellers and others who take our work to the world and readers who keep us alive, tell us nice things and hopefully get something useful from our stories.
I hope this is an enjoyable flick through 2018.

Regram @rebeccavoy. Amazing shot, Rebecca. Was this Photoshopped or actually dropped?

Scorsese. I like having this card nearby when I’m writing. Hope life’s sweet where you are. 🎥 🍿 ✏️
