Hong Kong Young Readers Festival and Somerset StoryFest

In the last couple of months I’ve been lucky enough to speak at Hong Kong Young Readers Festival and Somerset StoryFest. Both such good experiences. I met and reconnected with lots of great authors, organisers and readers. I talked Tom Weekly, Two Wolves, The Fall and my new novel Detention. I ate thousands of dumplings, met my first unicorn and was slimed. Mission accomplished.

With Jennie Orchard, master fundraiser for Room to Read and one of the kindest humans you’re likely to meet. She showed me around Hong Kong as she has done with many other authors and also arranged for me to speak at the festival!

On the first day of the fest, Belinda Murrell was slimed to raise money for Room to Read.

Second day it was Oliver Phommavanh’s turn.

On day three it was my turn. We raised $1067 for girls’ education in the developing world through our slimy antics.
