Cop & Robber Book Reviews

Cop & Robber Book Reviews bancks

Reviews for my new crime-thriller novel for middle-graders, Cop & Robber.

Magpies Journal review

‘Themes of atonement, forgiveness, compromise, loyalty and redemption flow seamlessly through this tightly plotted, uplifting tale of adventure, love and coming-of-age in a bush township, and encapsulate the complicated balance of good and bad, confusion and certainty, weakness and strength, that is the common experience of all humankind. Fans of Two Wolves, The Fall and Detention will be riveted by this latest novel by Tristan Bancks at his entertaining best. Highly recommended.’ – Russ Merrin, Magpies, Vol 37 No 4, September 2022

Written By Sime – Bookseller review by Simon McDonald

Tristan Bancks is my go-to author for young readers who come into the bookshop desperate for something pacy and addictive. I can’t rave highly enough about “Two Wolves,” “Detention” and (my favourite) “The Fall.” Bancks knows how to create a killer hook, a scintillating premise that demands exploration; and his characters are always fully-fledged concoctions, accoutred with authentic foibles and imperfections. He writes thrillers with heart and personality; page-turners that pose moral dilemmas for their young protagonists… This is gripping, propulsive storytelling. Young readers won’t be able to tear their eyes away as they race through its pages to find out for themselves whether the heist goes ahead; and what its success or failure will do to Nash’s relationships with his parents, friends, and school. Story Links Review by Teacher-Librarian Mia Macrossan

This fast-paced edge of your seat thriller has suspense and action by the bucket load, but because this is Tristan Bancks writing you get much more than cheap thrills . . . Tristan uses humour as well as conflict to add light and shade to his story. He uses Nash’s dilemma to explore complex themes of loyalty, love, honesty, and especially forgiveness. This makes it such a satisfying and memorable read, but beware, once you start it you will drop everything until you’ve finished it. Full review…
