I’m excited to share that my middle-grade thriller novel Cop & Robber has won a YABBA (Young Australians’ Best Book Awards) and KOALA (Kids Own Australian Literature Awards), voted for kids, by kids.
When I first started writing children’s books I used to dream of even being nominated for the YABBA and KOALAs, so this is super-exciting for me. Cop & Robber joins Two Wolves, The Fall and Detention as a YABBA / KOALA winner.
Here’s my short acceptance speech (including pyrotechnics. Well, sparklers). And below you can see the winners and honour books in all categories.
Congrats to all the authors and illustrators, thanks to the kids who voted, to the Penguin Books Australia team for believing in my work and to the YABBA Awards team! I’m also deeply thankful to the teachers, library staff and parents who encourage their kids to vote in these awards.
As I continue to write for kids and teens, this award will give me encouragement in the tricky times to continue pushing through and to trust that my next story might also make a connection with readers.
