CBCA Shortlist 2024 : Scar Town

Scar Town Tristan Bancks 2024 CBCA shortlist

I’m so excited to see Scar Town shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council Book of the Year Awards Younger Readers category. Congrats to all the shortlisted authors. I hope these books are read widely in coming months. Thanks to the judges for including my book. And to Zoe Walton, Claire DeMedici and the incredibly supportive team at Penguin Kids Australia for helping me to make the book.

Here’s a 5-minute video I made a while back sharing the personal inspiration for the book, a short reading and the video book trailer. I’ll keep this up for two weeks to stream from this link in case you know any educators who’d like to share it with kids:

Scar Town Synopsis

Seven years after Old Scarborough was drowned, a house is emerging from the water.

Will and his friends Dar and Juno dare each other to explore it.

But when they find bones – and a stash of cash – they realise they’re not the only ones interested in its secrets.

Now they’re fighting for their lives against the men who want what they found. Will can’t leave the mystery alone, though. What if the  bones belong to his missing dad?

A DANGEROUS JOURNEY TO UNCOVER THE TRUTH IN A TOWN THAT WANTS THE PAST TO STAY BURIED.
