On 1 May I hosted an event at Apple Store Sydney alongside Apple specialist, Jono, to explore some of the tools and techniques I use to write my books and to inspire young storytellers. I shared my vision board for Scar Town and did a reading from the book before inviting participants to start their own vision board using iPads provided.
I endeavoured to show teachers how to get kids engaged and dreaming up their own narratives using images, video, music and maps. We delved into FreeForm, Lookaround on Maps, Image Playground and Garage Band, sharing ways to bring stories to life with transmedia tools.
The store is right opposite Dymocks Sydney, the bookshop I remember my grandmother buying Paul Jennings’ Unreal from, for me and my cousin. And just down the road from the George St cinemas where I saw Rocky 4 and other classics, so it felt like hallowed ground.
